DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance. Zig zag stitch to finish edges.

Cut:

  • Satin - Four 21" x 28" pieces (two outer, two liner)
  • Sherpa - Two 21" x 7" pieces and two 6" diameter circles (poms for cord ends)

Install Grommets:

  1. Start with one satin panel. On the wrong side of the panel, mark the centers of the grommets - 2 1/4" down from one 21" edge and 2 1/2" away from the center. Fuse interfacing squares that are 1 inch larger than the grommets, centered over marks. Follow manufacturer's instructions to finish installing the grommets.

Attach Sherpa Edge:

  1. Attach Sherpa to the top edge of the front and back satin panels- Match, with right sides together, the sherpa pieces to the top edge (the 21" side, on the front this is the edge with the grommets) of the front and back satin panels. Pin layers together and sew using 1/2" seam allowance.
  2. Follow the same steps to attach the lining to the other side of the sherpa panels. When you are done, each sherpa panel will be between two satin panels.

Form the Bag:

  1. Match the 2 sets of panels with right sides together. Outside panels and lining panels should match. Seams at the sherpa panel should line up. Pin around all edges.
  2. Sew around all edges using 1/2" seam allowance. Leave an 8" opening on the bottom edge of the lining to turn the bag right side out through.
  3. Turn bag right side out. Fold seam allowance in along open edge and top stitched closed.
  4. Tuck lining into the main bag. Sherpa edges will be folded in half and appear on the inside and outside of the top edge of the bag.

Create Cord Channel:

  1. Match the sherpa to satin seam on the inside and the outside of the bag. Hold bag from the inside and pin from the outside all along the seam. Sew 1/4" below the seam around the bag for the top of the cord channel. Mark a line2 1/8" below the first seam. Top stitch for the bottom of the cord channel.
  2. Wrap tape around the ends of cord to prevent fray. Thread cord through channel entering and exiting through the grommets. Do not overlap the cord.

Create Pom Pom Ends for Cord:

  1. Sew a running stitch close to the edge around one Sherpa circle. Pull the stitch to gather the edges, keeping the fabric right side out.
  2. Before the circle closes completely, add a small amount of Fiber Fill inside the circle.
  3. Insert one end of the bag cord into the center of the Sherpa circle. Add more Fiber Fill to fill out the pom pom to desired fullness.
  4. Pull the stitching to tighten the edges of Sherpa around the cord. Stitch back and forth through the Sherpa and cord to secure the pom in place. Repeat.
