  • 5"x 40" Lightweight fusible interfacing
  • Iron
  • Rotary cutter, cutting mat & straightedge (or scissors)
  • Pencil
  • Straight pins
  • Safety pin

DIRECTIONS:

    First, make the scrunchie:
  1. Cut a 4.5"x 18" length of fabric. With right sides together, sew the long side, then turn right side out.
  2. Attach safety pin to one side of the 6" elastic, straight pin the other side to an opening of the fabric tube, and pull the safety pin through the fabric tube.
  3. Remove pins and sew ends of elastic together.
  4. Turn in raw edge of one side of the fabric tube, insert the other raw edge inside, and sew.
  5. Next, make the scrunchie tie:
  6. Cut a 10"x 40" piece of fabric.
  7. Press fusible interfacing onto wrong side of fabric, then align either left or right on the fabric.
  8. Fold from left to right, right sides together.
  9. Fold again, from bottom to top.
  10. Make a mark at the halfway point on the bottom (short side), and another two marks 8" up from the bottom on both long sides (see pattern). Cut a point by cutting from the bottom midway point to the mark on either side.
  11. Make two marks on the top short side that are 1.5" in from the outer edges. Then make a mark on both long sides 2.5" from the top (see pattern).
  12. Unfold. It should resemble a bow.
  13. Fold in half lengthwise and sew, leaving an opening at the center.
  14. Clip around curves and pull right side out through the opening.
  15. Press with iron.
  16. Sew opening.
  17. Tie scarf around the scrunchie.
