SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 paper mache letter
  • 3 colors of felt 12"x 18": black, white and a school color
  • Scissors
  • Tube of Scotch glue pen
  • Bottle of black acrylic paint
  • Medium paintbrush
  • Fine tip black Sharpie® marker

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Paint the sides of the letters with the black paint using the medium paintbrush. Let it dry.
  2. Trace the letter onto a sheet of paper and cut it out.
  3. Apply glue to the face of the letter and glue down the base color of felt onto the letter. With your scissors, trim out the letter.
  4. Lay the tracing paper cut out onto the next layer of felt and trace it with a black marker.
  5. Cut out the letter about 1/8" smaller than the paper cut out.
  6. Glue the second layer on top of the first layer.
  7. Then cut out the top layer of felt 1/8" smaller than the middle layer of felt.
  8. Glue the top layer on top of the second layer of felt.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Lay each layer of felt on top of the previous one and check the edges of the top layer before gluing then together. You may need to slightly trim the top layer in certain areas of the letter.
  • You may need to touch up the edges of the letter with the black paint after you have finished putting on all of the layer of felt.
