DIRECTIONS:
- For Striped Tie Dye:
- Follow Tulip Kit Instructions for Tie Dye: Protect work surface with plastic surface cover. Cover with a layer of paper towels. Prewash fabric to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener.
- Use t-shirt directly from washer - lie flat on protected work surface. Wearing plastic gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles, filling to line. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved. Apply first dye color to the top of the shirt, stopping 1/3 of the way down. Apply second dye color to the bottom of the shirt, stopping 1/3 of the way up. Cover dyed fabric with plastic wrap to keep damp. Let set for 6-8 hours. Fully rinse dyed fabric in warm water until all extra dye is removed and water runs clear. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for the fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately.
- For Circle Tie Dye:
- Follow Tulip Kit instructions for Tie Dye: Protect work surface with plastic surface cover. Cover with a layer of paper towels. Prewash fabric to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener.
- Use t-shirt directly from washer - lie flat on protected work surface. Pull shirt up from the center of the chest and twist, and tie using the rubber bands that come with the kit. Keep twisted and tie several more times down the shirt. Wearing plastic gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles, filling to line. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved. Apply color to the shirt, leaving space between ties but ensuring that the dye is penetrating into the folds.
- For shirt dyed with Color Blasters:
- Prewash fabric to remove sizing. Pour vinegar into bucket and place washed white t-shirt into the vinegar to soak for an hour or so. Ring out vinegar and take shirt outside. Find a way to hang shirt vertically, set it on something that you don't mind blasting with a temporary color powder. Check for wind direction and place yourself accordingly, 15 feet away from the shirt. Aim for shirt and twist color blaster tube. Place on plastic or cardboard, and let sit for 6-8 hours.
- _x000B_Alternately, this could be achieved with a method that looks much more like the Color Run Race - the shirt could be worn by another person (need a volunteer), not soaked in vinegar first, but just damp. Outside, you would need to stand 15 feet away from the person, blast the Color Blaster in their direction, and have them run into it. The benefit of this is, you do not need to worry about the wind whisking so much of the color powder away, with a person that can make sure that they are running right into it. After the shirt is removed, set it on plastic or cardboard outside, and douse it with vinegar with the spray bottle, and let sit for 6-8 hours.
- Whichever method is chosen for applying pigment from the Color Blaster tube, after it has sat for 6-8 hours, gingerly remove additional pigment with cold water. Allow to dry flat. Throw in dryer to heatset, and iron for an additional heatset.
JOANN HACKS:
- Mix dye colors together to achieve different hues. For example, a small amount of black into a vibrant blue will achieve a muted tone.
