Be careful not to twist your stitches! Stitches should all be facing the same direction when you join.
Ribbed Brim:
The brim is knitting in a simple K2, P2 ribbed pattern.
Row 1: *K2, P2 and repeat from * until your work measures 6inches from cast on edge
Knit 1 row and decrease by 1 stitch by knitting 2 stitches together.
You can do this at any time on this row (79 stitches total)
Seed Stitch Section:
(Seed stich is an easy stitch pattern made by alternating knit and purl stitches within a row and between all rows. It is called seed stitch because the stitches create little bumps that look like seeds.)
Seed Stitch Row 1: *K1, P1 and repeat from * until you complete 1 round & reach your stitch marker
(Seed stich is created by knitting into the purl stitches, and purling into the knit stitches of the prior row.)
Seed Stitch Row 2: *P1, K1 and repeat from * until you complete 1 round & reach your stitch marker
Repeat this 2 Row pattern until piece measures 10 inches total (4 inches of seed stitch section)
Now you will start to decrease stitches to form the crown of you hat.
Once you decrease enough stitches you can switch to the Magic Loop technique or double pointed needles.
Decrease Row 1:
(start on a row that begins with a K stitch)
*K1, P1, K2together, P2 together and repeat until last stitch, K last stitch
1 seed stitch row (*P1, K1 and repeat from * until end of row)
