SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Headband base
- Sequin fabric (about 1/4 of a yard)
- Lining fabric (about 1/4 of a yard)
- Scissors
- Batting (or 1/2" Foam)
- Hot glue gun and glue
DIRECTIONS:
*Please note when the word fabric is used below, it means both layers, the sequin fabric and lining fabric together. Do this by laying sequin fabric over lining fabric with both layers facing up, then stitch around perimeter to use as one piece of fabric.*Cover Headband with batting:
- Cut a piece of batting the width and length of headband.
- Hot glue batting (or foam) to top of headband.
- Trim the batting (or foam) to follow the taper of the headband leaving 1/4" overlap to all sides.
- Taper the batting at the ends of headband to reduce the bulk, starting at tip of each end and thinning batting up about 2".
Cover Center of headband with fabric:
- Cut a piece of fabric* about 5" long and wide enough to wrap around the headband in the center.
- Glue the fabric* to the middle of the headband starting at center of underside of headband along the length of headband. Repeat on remaining side, trim off excess fabric and fold under, then glue to have a finished underside edge.
Make the Knot:
- Cut a piece of fabric* 8" longer than the headband by 6" wide (or wide enough to wrap around center of headband with batting plus 3").
- Fold under the edges of fabric* along long edge and tie a knot in the center.
- Add to center of headband and secure knot with glue. Arrange knot for best appearance, making sure none of the raw edges are sticking out.
- Glue long edges of knot tails to center of underside of headband, starting with one side of knot, and then the other on same side of headband, trimming excess fabric as needed. Turn up the fabric on ends of headband and glue in place. Repeat along length of tails on other side of headband, trim excess fabric as needed, turning under raw edge then glue to have a finished underside.
- Readjust the knot if needed.
JOANN HACKS:
- Trim off excess fabric as needed to reduce bulk, making sure to leave enough to fold the fabric under and create a finished edge.
- Cutting the fabric pieces on the bias will make it easier to wrap around curved edge of headband.
- Can use either batting or foam depending on the look you want.
