SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Butterick® #6745
  • Fabric, Yardage Based on Size
  • Lining Fabric, Yardage Based on Size
  • Bias Tape Wide Single Fold, 2 Packages
  • 11/4 yard 2" Wide Iron-On Reflective Tape
  • Thread to Match
  • Tape Measure and/or Clear Ruler
  • Pins
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Pattern Adjustments: Pattern View A.
  2. Using front pattern pieces #1 and #3, tape together at 5/8" seam allowance (as if sewing) to make one front piece.
  3. Draw a new hem line from side seam to center front, perpendicular to center front.
  4. Using a curved object (such as a large cup), round out the center front to shape corner at hem into center front.
  5. This will be your new front piece. Cut 2 of each main fabric and 2 of each lining fabric.
  6. Cut one of back pattern #4 in main fabric and one in lining fabric.
  7. Please note, pocket has been eliminated.
  8. Sewing:
  9. Sew sides seams together then sew shoulder seams together in main fabric.
  10. Repeat with lining fabric.
  11. Layer 2 vests together with wrong sides together to make one.
  12. Staystitch along entire perimeter, including armholes at 1/2". This will sandwich 2 pieces together as one.
  13. Trim outer edge and armholes to scant 1/4".
  14. Iron on Reflective tape at desired location, depending on whether you use one or 2 rows.
  15. Starting at center front along side seams, across back and follow around to center front, making sure trim is level. Trim even with center front.
  16. Fold Bias tape in half and iron flat. Add tape to perimeter of vest and armholes to finish all raw edges following curves. Pin as needed and stitch close to open edge.
  17. Iron edges flat.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Press bias tape into shape following curves to ease in curves prior to sewing.
  • Make sure to catch the reflective tape in edge binding.
  • Reflective tape can be stitched on prior to sandwiching pieces together to make a clean finish.
  • to make sure it stays adhered when washed.
  • Add contrast color or print lining for bold statement.
  • Cut out and prep all pieces prior to sewing.
