DIRECTIONS:

To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

  1. Cut out pattern pieces. Divide pieces that will be cut from quilted panel.
  2. Lay out quilted pattern pieces, measure to determine panel size.
  3. Following instructions are for a finished size of quilt panel of 36"x 42". Adjust as needed for the size panel needed.
  4. Use a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise noted
  5. Cut (84) 3 1/2"x 3 1/2" squares of fabric E.
  6. Cut (4) 2" strips of fabrics A - D.
  7. Stitch strips together lengthwise in the combinations called out on the pattern sheet. There are a total of 6 combinations. Put the 4th strip of each fabric to the side for a moment because it will need to be cut smaller.
  8. Once the strips are made make sure to press then cut out 3 1/2" squares from the strips. A total of 14 will be needed for each color combination. Use the 4th strips that were set aside to make the necessary combos that are left (they will need to be cut smaller before they are sewn to accommodate for each of the required sets).
  9. The finished quilt panel has 12 squares by 14 squares. Lay out the patchwork pattern in your desired combo based on the attached pattern. The pattern squares were put in randomly between the solid, but make sure they are lined up the correct way.
  10. Stitch together each row with the right sides together. Press with the seams open.
  11. Stitch together each row with the right sides together. Press the seams open.
  12. Sandwich the backing fabric, batting and quilt top together with the right sides of the quilt facing out. Make sure all fabrics are laid out evenly and perfectly flat.
  13. Use safety pins to pin all layers together.
  14. Quilt the layers together by stitching along the top of the seam lines (stitch in the ditch style).
  15. When done quilting, make sure to cut off any excess fabric hanging off the edge of the quilt and use the rotary cutter, board and ruler to square-off the sides and make it a perfect rectangle.
  16. Cut desired pattern pieces from quilted panel following cutting directions on the pattern. Stay stitch or baste within seam allowance if needed to keep piecing from splitting where cut.
  17. Cut and sew pattern following pattern assembly directions. Use #14 sewing needle and Teflon foot while sewing Sherpa fleece fabric.
  18. Use an overcast or zig zag stitch to finish off interior seams.
  19. Pattern modifications to Simplicity 8999.
  20. Replace zipper with one sized so that it ends at the color block seam. Use quilted fabric for upper body, upper sleeve and hood.
  21. Place the bottom center front piece on the fold, eliminate the seam allowance at center front.
