DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable pattern click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.- Cut stocking pattern reversed, two cotton (lining), two Sherpa. Cut one cotton 2"x 8" for hanger. Fold both long edges to center. Press. Fold in half. Press. Sew close to both folded edges. Fold in half. Place looped end of hanger pointing toward center of RS of back Sherpa panel. Lay cut ends of hanger extending 1" past the top edge of stocking. Side of hanger 3/4" in from side of stocking (side opposite from toe). Baste in place 1/8" from top edge. Fuse Interfacing to WS of front Sherpa matching top corners and sides.
- Print one bold letter 3" W x 3" - 4" H. Cut two of pattern for the front and back of the initial from felt. Set back aside. Cut one contrast felt 1/8" smaller on all sides of initial letter. Layer front RSU with contrast RSU. Blanket stitch together close to edges. Determine patterns for embroidery. Mix layers of felt in geometric shapes with organic shapes made with embroidery stitches to fill contrast felt surface. Use a variety of contrast colors of embroidery floss. Treat the letter as an embroidery sampler. Finish by attaching the back felt to the front felt with a blanket stitch. On WS of front Sherpa place pins pointing through Sherpa 1 1/2" from center along the bottom edge of Interfacing (W of initial). Flip front. Place bottom edge of initial between points of pins. Sew running stitch through Sherpa and initial close to initial contrast felt layer edge.
- Place front Sherpa and one lining cotton RST. Match top corners. Sew 1/4" SA top edge only. Repeat. RST front and back Sherpa panels and front and back lining panels. Match seams and edges. Leave 6" open on one straight side of lining. Sew 1/4" SA. Clip curves. Zig zag cotton edges. Turn stocking through opening. Fold in edges of opening to match seam. Press. Sew 1/8" from folded edge of opening. Tuck lining into Sherpa stocking.
JOANN HACKS:
- Topstitch 3/4" - 1" down from top opening of stocking.
