SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- White T-shirt
- White cotton fabric for table settings
- Tulip Shibori, One-Step Tie Dye Kit, 3 kits
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut the cotton fabric to the following dimensions:
- 1 Table Runner: 12"x 6 1/2'
- 6 Napkins: 12"x 12"
- 6 Placemats: 12"x 18"
- 1 Pillow Cover: one 17" square piece & two pieces 17"x 13"
- Prepare the fabrics for dying in the following techniques.
- Placemats & T-shirt: Accordion-fold lengthwise, then wrap rubber bands around the ends, middle & between the two on either end.
- Napkins: Lay out flat. Pinch in the middle of the napkin and twist. Wrap a rubber band around the swirled napkin and another across that.
- Table Runner: Pinch a spot on the runner and wrap a rubber band around it about an inch from the pinched part. Keep working down and wrap another rubber band a couple of inches below the first. Continue working down and add another rubber band a few inches from the last. Repeat this several times throughout the length of the runner.
- Pillow Cover: Bunch the fabric into a ball and wrap it, several times, tightly with string.
- Follow the dying directions in the kit.
- After the items have been dyed, dried, and ironed, finish the pillow cover with the steps below.
- For each 17"x 13" piece, fold up one of the 17" edges twice and sew in place.
- Place the wrong sides together of the 17" square and the first 17"x 13" piece, aligning the top corners. Then overlapping the first piece, add the second 17"x 13" piece, aligning the bottom corners to the 17" square.
- Sew along the edge of the square with 1/2" seams.
- Clip the corners of the pillow cover and flip right side out.
JOANN Hacks:
- Be sure to rinse the dye from the fabric as much as possible with the rubber bands or string still in place on the pieces to keep color from running onto undyed areas.
