SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Vogue pattern 1518
  • Fabric on pattern envelope plus 1/2 yd for collar and belt
  • 1 yd of sparkle sheer fabric
  • 1/4 yd of very heavy pellon
  • 1 yd of heavy fusible pellon
  • 2" Velcro for belt
  • Kraft Paper
  • Pencil
  • Sewing Notions

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out pattern to instructions.
  2. All new pattern pieces are 5/8" unless stated.
  3. Collar: Place front pattern onto Kraft paper, trace the front from shoulder to waistline. Measure and mark a line at the shoulder armhole up 1 1/2" and out 2", then draw a line to the neckline. Draw a straight line at the waistline over 2" on each side from the center front, then up 8". From that 8" mark, shape a curve line to the new extended shoulder line (collar). Complete collar by tracing the neckline to waist.
  4. Back Collar: Place back pattern onto Kraft paper and trace the upper back. Trace the back neckline and follow the same shoulder markings for collar as the front.
  5. Cut out front and back collar pieces of silver, 4 layers of sparkle sheer fabric (2 for each side), and heavy fusible. Press fusible to silver fabric. Sew silver shoulder seam. Turn under outside seams, stitch at the edge and trim off excess. Sew sheer shoulder seams, place on top of silver collar leaving edges raw. Cut out 4 strips of the very heavy pellon the length of shoulder minus shoulder seam and seam at the end of collar. Sew 2 strips together. Sew strips flat on to the shoulder seam for a strong support for collar to stand up. Serge or zig-zag both sheer and silver necklines together, top stitch to neckline. Turn under collar and neckline to the dress with a 5/8" seam allowance. Stitch to secure at neckline and center front.
  6. Belt: Cut a strip cross grain 5" X length of waist plus 1 1/2" of silver and heavy fusible. Press fusible to silver. Sew a 3/8" seam the length of strip, sew Velcro to ends of belt.
