Soda Bottle Acrylic Pouring Canvas Art

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Liquitex Basics Acrylic colors:
  • Pyrrole Red
  • Medium Magenta
  • Vivid Red Orange
  • Primary Yellow
  • Brilliant Blue
  • Light Blue Permanent
  • Liquitex Pouring Medium
  • 10"x 10" Canvas
  • Cut of the Bottom of a Soda Bottle (one with 5 "wells" works best for flower shape)
  • 6 Plastic Cups (for mixing)
  • Craft Sticks
  • Optional: Covering for Work Surface, Gloves

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Protect your work surface with paper or plastic (recommended) and assemble supplies & tools.
  2. Prepare paint. Add pouring medium & paint into 6 plastic cups with quantities below:
    • Cup 1: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Pyrrole Red
    • Cup 2: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Medium Magenta
    • Cup 3: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Vivid Red Orange
    • Cup 4: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Primary Yellow
    • Cup 5: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Brilliant Blue
    • Cup 6: 1 1/2TBSP Pouring Medium + Pea-Sized Dot Light Blue Permanent
  3. Mix each color using clean craft stick for each cup, until all the pouring medium is incorporated.
  4. IMPORTANT: Place canvas on a completely level work surface to ensure the pour does not flow off of the canvas.
  5. Place soda bottle bottom upside down, with ridges upright, in the center of the canvas.
  6. Using the color order below, slowly pour a small amount of each color into the center of the soda bottle bottom and let fall onto the canvas.
    • Light Blue Permanent
    • Brilliant Blue
    • Primary Yellow
    • Vivid Red Orange
    • Pyrrole Red
    • Medium Magenta
  7. Once desired flower size is achieved, slowly lift bottle bottom off the canvas.
  8. Add flower "points". Place tip of craft stick in the center of the flower and drag through to the outside of the "leaf" by approximately 1 inch.
  9. Allow 24-48 hours to dry on a completely flat surface.
