- 2. Construction: 1/2" seam allowance used throughout
- Light Gray, Dark Gray, Light Blue Pillows:
- Sew 2" wide fabric pieces together to create needed length for each pillow to cover cording.
- Create covered binding: Fold 2" fabric strip over the cotton cording. On a sewing machine, use a basting stitch and zipper foot to sew a seam close to cotton cording. Begin stitching 2" from end of cording. Two inches of cotton cording will be exposed.
- Trim off the exposed cotton cording at end. Fold under the excess fabric.
- Attach covered binding to pillow top:
- Pin binding to pillow top beginning with the folded fabric. Match the edge of binding to the edge of fabric, with piping inside the pillow. The binding will be sandwiched inside while sewing back to front.
- Start stitching 2" from beginning of binding, leaving the folded end free. Stitch binding around pillow top, using a zipper foot. Clip the binding seam allowance at each corner to fit the turn.
- Stop stitching when a few inches from beginning. Cut the binding so it butts up with the cotton cording at the beginning. Neatly tuck the excess folded fabric over the binding and finish stitching, catching the end and beginning of the binding.
- Pillow back construction: Finish the cut sides of the two back pieces with a narrow hem. Hint: To determine which sides to hem, match the two back pieces with the front piece. Hem the cut sides that will overlap.
- Overlap the two back fabric pieces to match the size of the front. Pin. Machine baste sides along seam line.
- Stitch bottom to top, RST, sandwiching the binding in the middle. Pin. Use Zipper foot and 1/2" seam to stitch around entire pillow. Clip corners. Turn right side out. Push corners out.
- 3. Construction:
- Yellow Lumbar with Pompoms:
- Make Pompoms: On cardboard, trace & cut out concentric circles (one inside the other) to create a doughnut shape. Make two templates.
- Hold the two cardboard templates together and wrap yarn around until it is nearly full. Cut between the two cardboard templates, continuing to hold yarn on template. Cut another length of yarn to tie securely around the pompom yarn.
- Trim the pompom to make it round & even.
- Attach Pompoms to pillow front: Determine placement of pompoms by measuring the front fabric piece. Make evenly spaced fabric markings on RS pillow front fabric around the outside edge according to desired look and number of pompoms.
- Use a Zipper Foot to machine baste each pompom on RS pillow front at each marking. pompoms will be sandwiched between front and back pillow fabric pieces. Pompom loose ties are sewn to fabric. Set aside
- Sew pillow back pieces together like pillows with cording instructions, above.
- Stitch bottom to top, RST, sandwiching Pompoms in the middle. Pin. Use Zipper foot and 1/2" seam to stitch around entire pillow. Clip corners. Turn right side out. Push corners out.
- 4. Construction:
- Navy pillow with Tassels:
- Make Tassels: Cut a piece of cardboard 6"x 4". Wrap the yarn around the 6" length until the desired thickness is achieved. Use a 6" length of yarn to tie off one end of the wrapped yarn. Cut the yarn on the other end. Remove from cardboard. Tie another length of yarn around the tassel nearest the tied end to create the tassel top. Trim the bottom yarn lengths to create a neat tassel.
- Attach Tassels to pillow front: Use a Zipper Foot to machine baste each Tassel on RS pillow front. Tassels will be sandwiched between front and back pillow fabric pieces. Set aside.
- Sew pillow back pieces together like pillows with cording instructions.
- Stitch bottom to top, RST, sandwiching Tassels in the middle. Pin. Use Zipper foot and 1/2" seam to stitch around entire pillow. Clip corners. Turn right side out. Push corners out. Insert pillow form.
