Spring Modern Cotton Quilt Wall Hanging

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Pattern Templates
  • 1/4 yd of 5 fabrics — brown, cream, orange, navy, and pink.
  • 1/2 quilt batting
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle
  • Thread
  • White cotton yarn
  • Iron
  • Wood dowel
  • Wood Beads (desired size)
  • Embroidery thread
  • Embroidery needle

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out each piece from the pattern templates.
  2. Cut 2 pink, one brown, one orange, one cream, and one navy of the A triangle.
  3. Layer the navy and orange, right sides together. Sew up the diagonal side. Open the square created and iron flat.
  4. Layer one of the pink on top of the navy triangle, right sides together, facing the opposite direction of the navy triangle. Sew along the edge. Set aside.
  5. Layer the pink and brown, right sides together. Sew up the diagonal side. Open the square created and iron flat.
  6. Layer the cream triangle on top of the brown triangle, right sides together, facing the opposite direction of the navy triangle. Sew along the edge. Set aside.
  7. Cut one navy and one cream of the B template; one brown and one orange of the C template; one brown and one orange of the D template; and one navy and one cream of the E template.
  8. Layer the navy B and brown C, right sides together, and sew.
  9. Layer the orange D on top of the brown C, right sides together, and sew.
  10. Layer the cream E on top of the orange D, right sides together, and sew.
  11. Iron this piece flat.
  12. Layer this on top of the pink triangle of the first half, aligning the diagonals and sew together.
  13. Layer the cream B and orange C, right sides together, and sew.
  14. Layer the brown D on top of the orange C, right sides together, and sew.
  15. Layer the navy E on top of the brown D, right sides together, and sew.
  16. Iron this piece flat.
  17. Layer this on top of the cream triangle of the first half, aligning the diagonals and sew together.
  18. Now two halves of the front have been created. Place them together, right sides facing and sew up the middle. Iron flat.
  19. Back the top piece with quilt batting. Cut the pieces to the size of the front.
  20. Layer the fabric pieces, front with right side up, back with right side down, then batting. Sew along the edge of the piece, leaving a hole for turning.
  21. Turn right sides out and iron flat.
  22. Top stitch around.
  23. Hand stitch in desired areas. See photo for placement.
  24. Cut the wood dowel down to the size of the top of the quilted wall hanging.
  25. Tie cotton yarn to either end of the dowel for hanging. Sew the dowel to the back of the top of the quilted wall hanging.
  26. Make a wooden bead garland and tie to the end of the dowel.

  • If the dowel is difficult to sew to the wall hanging, it can be hot glued.
