SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Square By Design® Square
- 3/4 yd 54" width fabric for backing
- 2 1/3 yds cording
- 20"x 20" pillow insert
- Sewing machine with zipper foot
- Basic sewing supplies
- 16"-18" zipper (optional)
- Rotary cutter, mat and transparent ruler (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Finished size: 20"x 20"
- Note: To prevent fraying, use a finishing or zig zag stitch or serge along each fabric edge. Seam allowances are 1/2" unless otherwise noted. If ironing is needed, use dry iron.
- Mark and cut the Square By Design® Square to make a 21"x 21" square with motif centered.
- From backing fabric, cut a piece that measures 21"x 21".
- If using self-made cording, make cording following desired method.
- Apply cording to SBD pillow front piece, starting at the bottom middle of the piece and aligning raw edges. Leave 1/2" free and sew the cording around the pillow front piece, clipping corners of the cording seam allowance and stopping approximately 1" from the other end of the cording. Remove a few stitches on the ending side, fold back the fabric, cut the cord so the edges butt together and fold under raw fabric edge. Position ending fabric over beginning edge. Complete stitching. (Optional: Insert zipper along bottom edges of pillow front and back.)
- Pin remaining sides together, stitch and turn.
- Insert pillow form, smoothing and working it into the corners. Slip stitch bottom seam opening if a zipper is not used.
