SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1 3/4 yd of fabric (54"/60" wide) for 1st pillow
- 1 3/4 yd of fabric (54"/60" wide) for 2nd pillow
- Two 3" pieces project foam (measures 24"x 36")
- 2 bags of stuffing
- 1 bag (roll) of batting
- Hot glue gun/glue sticks
- 8" or 9" long upholstery needle
- 2 X-large plastic bag
- Sewing notions
DIRECTIONS:
-
All seams are 1/2" unless stated.
- Cut one (for bottom and top) 40 1/2"x 28 1/2" rectangle.
- Cut four sections 40 1/2"x 5". Sew sections together to complete strip. Sew strip to top rectangle. Sew strip to bottom rectangle leaving openings every 18" for later stuffing and leaving one shorter end opening to insert pillow.
- To make inside, wrap batting around project foam, gluing the overlaps together. Wrap the pillow in the plastic bags (cutting plastic to open to one sheet). The plastic bag will slide into the pillow easily. Without the plastic it will be very hard to insert. Push wrapped foam into rectangle, after insertion pull the plastic wrap out.
- Push the stuffing into the pillow sides and on top, using the opening to stuff. Pin seam allowances together. Add more stuffing if needed before closing. Hand stitch openings closed.
- To make tufting around edges: Measure 1" above seamline and 1" below seam line. Hand stitch in and out about 2" until all edges are tufted. Turn pillow over and repeat.
- Find the middle of pillow, mark for tufts: Place marks 8" from the edge 13 1/2" up from edge and mark on the top and bottom. Thread upholstery needle with 4 to 6 strands of thread, push needle to the base side marking, go over about 3/8", then come back up to the top of pillow. Push pillow with your thumb to indent, tie in a several knots to secure. Cut off excess thread leaving 1/2" to decorate.
