SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Black/white card
- Spray inks
- Stencils
- Paper towels
- Scrap paper
- Paper or mat to protect your work surface
- Gloves, optional (helpful to protect ink from staining hands but not critical)
- Sink/water (close by to wash off stencils between uses to prevent ink smearing)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Black marker
- Glue dots
DIRECTIONS:
- *Practice spraying on scrap paper to experiment with how much ink to use and the distance you need to be from the paper. It's best to start light and build in layers to avoid smearing.
- Cloud Design:
- Use the cloud stencil and shades of blue ink to create a cloudy sky look.
- Add in stars with the star stencil and a darker blue ink.
- Using scissors, create a layered affect by cutting down the top of the card into cloud shapes. The front lower than the back to create dimension. Use the cut away portion at the top to create clouds to glue to the front for even more interest. Use the glue dots to adhere the clouds to the front of the card.
- Cut another cloud from white card stock and use it to write on your message with black marker and glue to the front of the card.
- Chevron Design:
- Place the chevron stencil on the card and spray with darker blue and purple tones. Spray lighter in some areas and more in others to add interest and dimension. Make sure not to overspray and cause smearing.
- Wash the stencil and pat dry, then reposition and spray with pinks and lighter blues.
- Cut a strip of paper to write a message on the front of the card. Cut a “V" shape into one end to mimic a pennant shape. Repeat so you have 2.
- Lay one of them on the card and lightly mist the card with pink and bright blue ink to create a tie dye affect to the background. The chevron will still be visible through this layer it will just add interest to your background. Take off the pennant piece you laid down to show a portion with a white background.
- Using glue dots adhere the white pennant below and add your message.
Craft Hack Tips & Tricks:
- Make sure your work surface is protected with paper or a mat so the ink does not stain. There will be some minor overspray so make sure to protect the area accordingly.
- Wash the stencil between colors to avoid smearing. Rinse with water and pat dry.

Beautiful cards, but instructions are lacking
I really liked the way these look, but the instructions appear to assume that I already know how to do inking with stencils. Do you drop ink and mist with a sprayer? These instructions are more guidelines, and lack the details that would help a novice--or me--want to attempt this project, much less be successful.
