  • He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not Fabric from the Stonehill Collection by Donna Wilder for Fabric Traditions:
  • 3/4 yd large aqua daisy print
  • 1/4 yd magenta dot
  • 3/8 yd small off-white mini daisy print
  • 8"x8" square paper backed fusible webbing
  • Thread to match fabrics
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron & pressing surface
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Ruler & fabric marking pen

DIRECTIONS:

    Cutting:
One 41"x25" pillowcase piece from the large aqua daisy print
One 41"x12" band from off-white mini daisy print
One 41"x1-1/2" strip from the magenta dot

  1. Trace the daisy and center appliques to the paper side of the fusible webbing. Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the daisy to the wrong side of the magenta dot fabric and the center to the off-white mini daisy print. Cut out the appliques. Carefully remove the paper backing from the fabric.
  2. With the aqua daisy print rectangle vertical, position the daisy applique in the lower right corner approximately 5-1/2" from lower edge and 2-1/2" from the right edge. Fuse the daisy in place. Fuse the center to the daisy. Use a marking pen to draw the lines of the petals toward the center.
  3. Zigzag stitch around the edges of the petals and along the drawn lines using magenta thread. Zigzag stitch around the center using aqua thread.
  4. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and press it flat. Pin it along the long edge of the pillowcase with right sides up, then baste 1/2" from the raw edges.
  5. Press under 1/2" on one long edge of the band. Pin other long edge right side down to the edge of the pillowcase with the strip. Stitch 1/2" from the edge. Trim the seam allowance and press it toward the band.
  6. Fold the pillowcase in half with wrong sides together matching the edges. Stitch 1/4" from the lower edge and the end of the pillowcase piece. Trim the seam allowance to 1/8".
  7. Turn the pillowcase wrong side out. Press the seams flat. Stitch 1/4" from the first row of stitching to complete the French seam.
  8. Fold the band in half so the folded edge covers the stitching. Baste the edge in place.
  9. From the right side, topstitch along the inner edge of the band. Remove the basting thread.
