- 1 skein each of 3 colors (Color A, Color B, Color C) #4 medium weight 100% cotton
- 12 yards (11 m) of Simplicity ®/MD rattail trim
- Boye®/MD Crochet Hook, Size J (6.0 mm)
- Tape measure
Approximately 7" (18 cm) square
Gauge is not critical for this project.
With 3 strands of Color A held together, ch 21.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn - 19 hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc in all rows), skip first st, FLhdc in each st across, ending with hdc in top of ch-2 turning ch, turn - 19 hdc.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2
Row 4: Repeat Row 2, changing to 1 strand of Color B and 1 strand of rat tail trim held together in last hdc.
Rows 5-7: Repeat Row 2
Row 8: Repeat Row 2, changing to 3 strands of Color C in last hdc.
Row 9-11: Repeat Row 2
Row 12: Repeat Row 2, do not turn, ch 15, join with sl st in top of last hdc to form loop.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Rows 1-4 and Rows 9-12 are worked holding 3 strands of yarn together.
Rows 5-8 are worked holding 1 strand of yarn and 1 strand of rat tail together.
To change yarn color: work last hdc until last 3 loops are on hook, yarn over with new yarn and pull through all loops, continue working with new yarn.
hdc-half double crochet
sl st-slip stitch
FLhdc (Front Loop half-double crochet): Insert hook into the front loop only then make a half-double crochet as usual. This will result in a horizontal bar along the back edge of the row.
