SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% Cotton fabric
  • 1/4" elastic (approximately 16" long)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Pattern download

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking "download PDF" below Get Patterns.
  2. Cut pattern pieces from your fabric. The larger pieces should be cut on the fabric fold, the fold going with the grain of the fabric. If your fabric has a definite top and bottom pattern, double check before cutting to make sure the pattern is placed correctly on the fabric.
  3. Open the folded fabric pieces.
  4. Find the center of the more exaggerated curved edge of the nose piece and match it to the straight edge of the main piece. Beginning in the center of the main piece (where the fabric was folded), pin the nose piece to the main piece, right sides together. The straight edge of the main piece will follow the curve of the nose piece.
  5. Stitch the nose piece onto the main piece using a 1/8" seam allowance.
  6. Fold the main piece in half again on the original fold line, right sides together. Sew the chin dart together with a 1/4" seam allowance.
  7. Iron flat the dart seams to the same direction.
  8. Place the two pieces right sides together and pin along the top and bottom edges. The seam around the nose piece should be going up towards the nose edge.
  9. Stitch along the top and bottom edges of the mask with 1/4" seam allowance. Do not sew along the edges of the mask near the ear area.
  10. Flip the mask right side out and press the seams.
  11. Top stitch along the top and bottom of the mask near the edge.
  12. Beginning at one of the open ends of the mask, fold under twice and stitch closely along the edge of the fold, creating a 1/2" channel for elastic. Repeat for the other open end of the mask.
  13. Using a safety pin or darning needle, pull an 8 1/2" length of elastic through the casing on each channel you just made. Sew the ends of the elastic together and hide the seam of the elastic in the casing of the mask if you wish.
  14. Press before wearing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best mask pattern I’ve tried I’ve made at least 50 of this style and everyone I’ve given out to prefers this pattern to any of the others I’ve made. (And I’ve made quite a few!) The one alteration I’ve made, I use fuse beads or pearled beads to make the elastic adjustable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pattern! This is my favorite mask pattern and I have tried 6 different styles to get one that fits. As others have said, it may not be for rank beginners because of the little nose piece, but it's worth the effort. It stays down under my chin and my reading glasses don't fog up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful mask! This is a very comfortable mask that fits well. Be sure that when you go to print the pattern, your copier is set at 100%. My copier was set at a smaller percentage. You can also enlarge the pattern through your printer options. The mask comes together really quickly. I'm making them for all my friends.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I really like the design of this mask. The actual downloaded pattern is way, way too small for an adult. I have it to my 9 year old granddaughter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mask! I have made this mask over 100 times in many different sizes for children and adults. It is very comfortable and easy to make. My masks have a pipe cleaner or metal piece at the nose and the elastic fasteners from Amazon. This is a great mask pattern!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Glasses! This is my new go-to mask pattern. I have really struggled wearing masks because I rely on glasses and they always fog up. This pattern covers the nose very well and there's no more fog! The fit is also quite comfortable.
