Stuffed Fleece Whale

Intermediate 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd solid fleece
  • 1/4 yd contrast solid fleece (12"x 18" remnant)
  • 1 lb Fiber Fill (approximately)
  • Two 7/8" black buttons or safety eyes
  • Matching thread
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above). Enlarge patterns.
  2. Cut out front and back of whale from fleece.
  3. Cut out side 4 fins from fleece.
  4. Cut out 2 underbelly pieces from contrast fleece.
  5. Lay underbelly pieces on RS of whale front and back.
  6. Edge stitch along top straight edge of underbelly.
  7. Trim fleece from underneath belly pieces.
  8. With WST, edge stitch around outside of fins.
  9. Lightly stuff fins.
  10. Stitch side fins to whale front and back along stitching line indicated on pattern.
  11. Stitch “water" swirls in water spout as shown.
  12. Trim around spout if needed.
  13. Baste or pin waterspout to whale front.
  14. With WST, edge stitch around outside of whale, leaving an opening in the bottom back for stuffing.
  15. Stuff to desired firmness.
  16. Stitch opening closed.
  17. Sew eyes in place as shown.
