SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 4 yds 54" Outdoor Fabric (per Sail)
  • Extra Large Grommets (3, per Sail)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

Use 1" seam allowance throughout.
  1. Open fabric and fold in half, right sides together, matching cut edges and selvedges.
  2. Pin cut edges and seam 1".
  3. Mark and cut a diagonal line from one corner, at the seam, to opposite corner, at the fold. Open 2 pieces of fabric to reveal 2 triangles.
  4. Press seam to one side and top stitch 3/4" from seam.
  5. Right sides together, place both triangles on top of each other.
  6. On short cut sides mark 2" mark at middle edge and cut a slight curve from one corner to the other.
  7. Repeat on long edge only mark a 3" center mark.
  8. Pin and seam 1" all three sides, leaving a 10" opening on one short side.
  9. Turn right sides out and press.
  10. Starting at opening, topstitch 1/4" from outer edge and again 1/2" from that topstitch.
  11. Add one grommet to each corner following the directions provided with the grommets.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a medium long stitch with a narrow zigzag to allow fabric to stretch.
