DIRECTIONS:
Hanging Toy Bins, 14" H x 10" D:
Cut belting, 1 @ 9".
Cut foam, 1 @ 15"x 32 1/2", 1 @ 11" circle.
Cut fleece, 1 @ 3 1/4"x 9" outer print (hanger), 2 @ 15"x 32 1/2" fleece or 1 each outer and liner, 2 @ 11" circle fleece or 1 each outer and liner.
Create hanger. On the WS of the 3 1/4"x 9" strip mark a line 1 1/2" from one long edge. Line up the length of the belting with the line. Fold over the short side of outer and sew close to the edge. Double fold over the other side of outer over the belting. Sew over the original stitching. Continue the stitching down the opposite side of the belting. The ends of the hanger will be tucked inside of the sides of the bin. Mark 1 1/2" up from both cut ends. Set aside.
Fuse foam to WS of outer 15"x 32 1/2" and 11" circle.
WST outer circle with foam to liner circle, baste 1/4" from edge.
Pin RST one long edge (top) of outer rectangle to liner rectangle. Sew 1/2" from edge, start and stop 2" from both corners. This will leave an opening to insert the hanger.
Open out rectangle. RST outer/foam short ends. Sew 1/2" SA start and stop 1/2" from both corners. Repeat with liner. This will create a tube. Trim seams to 1/4" only along seams.
Turn outer RSO. Place liner inside of outer. Place the hanger ends into the opening on the top seam. Fold in the outer and liner raw edges to match the bin top seam. Match the 1 1/2" marks on the hangers with the top edge of the bin. Slide the outer edges of the hangers to meet the seams on the top of the bin. Topstitch 1/4" from the top edge of the bin. Topstitch 1" down from the top edge of the bin. The second topstitch will catch the bottom edges of the hanger.
Flip the bin over. Pin the liner to the outer starting by matching the seams. Baste 1/4" from the edge. Turn bin inside out.
Fold the bottom of the bin holding at the seam and pulling out to find the center of the opposite side of the tube. Mark with a pin. Place the pin mark on top of the seam to find the quarter marks of the tube. Mark with pins.
Fold the circle bottom and pin to mark quarters. RST match quarter marks of the circle with the tube bin bottom edge. Sew 1/2" SA from the circle side. Zig zag raw edges. Turn the bin RSO.
Play Mat Blanket:
Cut batting, fleece and duck cloth to 38"x 44", leave batting slightly larger. Layer batting then fleece RSU then duck cloth WSU. Pin around edges. For curved corners use a circle 4-5" (container lid works well) to mark curves that meet at the side lines. Sew 1/2" SA around edges leaving a 9" opening on one side to turn. Trim corners to reduce bulk. Turn RSO. Press.
Turn opening edges in to match side seam. Hand stitch opening closed. Topstitch 5/8" in from edge of mat. Topstitch across the mat matching the pattern of the print. A flexible ruler may be used to draw curvilinear line patterns to follow with stitching.
Make 1" hem on one 19" side of each back piece. Double stitch.
Place two back pieces on top of one another overlapping hemmed edges to create a 19" square. Stitch together overlap 1/4" from edges.
Find and mark the center of each side of front and back 19" squares. Find and mark the center of 26" length of each 3" flange strip.
RST match the center of one side of front with the center of one flange strip. Pin to 1/2" from corner. Repeat for opposite side of front. Sew 1/2" SA starting and stopping 1/2" from corners. Repeat for other two sides. Repeat for back.
Fold the front RST opposite corners to create a triangle. Lay the flange strips on top of one another. Draw a 45 degree line on the top flange strip. Start the angle at the front and flange seam and end at the raw edge of the flange. Pin together on the line. Repeat for the opposite corner.
Sew on the line. Open the pillow front and lay flat. The sewn corners should lay flat. Repeat for the opposite corners and the back corners.
Trim 1/4" from the seams. Press front and back seams toward the flanges and corner seams open.
Lay the front and back RST. Match up corner seams. Sew 1/2" from the edges. Trim corners to reduce bulk. Turn RSO. Push out corners with a dowel or chopstick.
Align the flange seams. Sew around the front panel close to the seam.
Insert pillow form.
Pillow 2:
Cut print fleece 1 @ 21"x 51".
Make 1" hem on both 21" edges. RST overlap hemmed edges to create a 21"x 20" rectangle. Sew 1/2" from raw edges. Trim corners to reduce bulk. Turn RSO. Push out corners with dowel or chopstick.
Fill with pillow form.
Pouf 14" Diameter x 10" H:
Cut and tape together triangle template.
Cut a top and bottom, two 11" circles.
Cut 8 triangles for sides. Arrange the triangles to alternate points top to bottom. RST one triangle to the next, matching top point of one triangle to bottom straight edge of the next triangle, 1/2" SA. When all 8 triangles are sewn together press seams open. Trim seam points to lay flat.
Topstitch on either side of each seam.
RST sew end triangles together to create a tube. Sew 1/2" SA from top in 4 1/2" and from the bottom up 4 1/2". This should leave an approximately 5" opening to turn. Press the seam open. Topstitch on both sides of the seam from top to bottom.
Fold the circles in half and mark the folds on either side. Fold in half the opposite direction, matching the marks, to find the quarter marks of the circles.
RST pin the circles to the tube of triangles matching the quarter marks on the circles with the seams between triangles. Sew 1/2" from raw edges sewing from the circle sides. Double stitch the seam 1/4" from edges. Trim close to the seam. Turn RSO.
Fill with Poly-Fil.
Hand stitch opening closed.
Play letters 18" tall:
Determine colors and prints. Use template coloring sheet to determine locations on letters. Fabric measurements on templates. Piping matches front colors.
Transfer lettering patterns on to cardboard. Good side of cardboard is the back. Cut out individual letters using a ruler and utility knife. Mark lines on the backs of the lettering 14" up from the bottom edge of each letter. Use the pattern to locate the centers for grommets. This is a level center not an actual center point. Use the flat ring of a grommet to draw the hole onto cardboard. Use an X-Acto knife to cut out the hole. Attach one grommet for hanging each letter.
Use the cardboard letters to transfer the letters on to the WS of fabric. Add 1/2" around each letter for SA.
Add batting to the back of letters. Cut batting slightly oversized for each letter. Sew batting to backs of letters 1/4" from fabric raw edges. Trim off excess batting.
Use provided measurements for lengths of piping. Cut lengths of fabric for piping 1 5/8" wide. Fold fabric WST over cording and sew close to cord using a zipper foot.
Attach piping to letters. Start piping at bottom left corner of letters. Tail of piping should overhang the raw edge of fabric by 1". Match the raw edges of piping with the edges of the letters. Sew piping to letters on top of the original piping stitching.
Cut 3" strips of fabric for sides. Cut 2 1/2" strips of foam to match lengths for each side of letters. Fuse the foam to the WS of fabric aligning long side of foam with one long side of fabric. The 1/2" of fabric length that does not have foam will be glued to the cardboard backs of the letters. Mark points 1/2" from each short end of sides on the long side with foam.
Attach sides to fronts. RST long edges of sides with foam to raw edges of lettering piping. Sew using a zipper foot close to the piping stitching to 1/2" from either end of sides. Repeat for each side panel. RST short ends of sides sew 1/2" SA. Match up the corners of the foam. Sew from the foam corners to the piping stitching. Trim seams and corners to reduce bulk.
Turn RSO.
Attach fabric letters to cardboard. Place fabric letter face down. Lay the cardboard back over the back of the letter. Start with the center opening of the P and the A or the smallest area of L an Y. Pull the 1/2" fabric edge of sides around to the back of the cardboard. Line up the cut edge of foam with the back of cardboard. Place a bead of hot glue on the cardboard and press the fabric to secure. Glue a small area at a time and fill with Poly-Fil. Continue filling and hand pressing to settle the fill until all edges are closed around the cardboard.
Use the hanging template for measurements for hanging. Wall space 18" H x 5' W. Mark a light pencil line or use blue tape to indicate the baseline for the letters. Mark 14" up from the baseline for the height of the hangers. See template for side to side spacing.
Apply a small ball of poster putty to one bottom corner of the cardboard backs of each letter. Hang the letters on the grommets. Level the letters and press the putty to the wall. This will ensure that the letters will not shift position.
