15"x 13" BAG WITH CONTRAST BOTTOM


SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd fabric for bag
  • 3/4yd contrast fabric for lining, handles & bottom
  • 1yd heavy weight fusible interfacing
  • Matching thread
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

    NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance.

    From bag fabric and interfacing cut 2 pieces 17 1/2" H x 14" W.
    From contrast fabric cut:
    2 pieces 17 1/2" H x 14" W for lining.
    2 pieces 6" H x 14" W for bottom contrast.
    Follow manufacturer's directions, fuse interfacing to WS of bag front and back pieces.
    Press under 1/2" on top edge of bottom contrast.
    Lay bottom contrast piece over bag front and back, and edge stitch in place along fold.
    Cut a 1 1/2" square from bottom corners of bag and lining pieces.
    Press handles in half lengthwise, then open and press edges to center, refold to 1" and press.
    Edge stitch both long sides of the handles.
    Baste handles 3" in from sides on bag front and back.
    With bag RST, stitch sides and bottom together.
    Press seams open.
    Bring side and bottom seams together at cut out and sew together to form bottom of bag.
    Repeat with lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
    With RST, sew lining to bag.
    Turn RS out and press.
    Edge stitch top.
    Slip stitch opening closed.

    13"x 11" BAG WITH POCKET


    SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

    • 1/2yd fabric for bag & pocket
    • 3/4yd contrast fabric for lining & handles
    • 1yd heavy weight fusible interfacing
    • Matching thread
    • Basic sewing supplies

    DIRECTIONS:

      NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance.

      From bag fabric and interfacing cut 2 pieces 15 1/2" H x 12" W.
      Cut 1 piece 14" H x 6" W for pocket.
      From contrast fabric cut:
      2 pieces 15 1/2" H x 12" W for lining.
      2 pieces 4" H x WOF for handles.
      Follow manufacturer's directions, fuse interfacing to WS of bag front and back pieces.
      Fold pocket piece over and stitch RST.
      Press seam open and turn RS out; press.
      Lay pocket on front of bag 2 1/2" down from the top and 2 1/2" in from the sides; baste in place.

      Cut a 1 1/2" square from bottom corners of bag and lining pieces.
      Press handles in half lengthwise, then open and press edges to center, refold to 1" and press.
      Measure UP 14" on both ends of each handle and edge stitch along both long sides between marks on the handles.
      Pin handles 2 1/2" in from sides on bag front (covering the pocket edges) and repeat with back.
      Edge stitch handles in place up to center stitching. (leaving 1 1/2" free at the top)
      With RST, stitch sides and bottom together.
      Press seams open.
      Bring side and bottom seams together at cut out and sew together to form bottom of bag.
      Repeat with lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
      With RST, sew lining to bag.
      Turn RS out and press.
      Finish edge stitching handles to bad top.
      Edge stitch top.
      Slip stitch opening closed.
      15"x 13" BAG WITH CONTRAST SIDES AND BOTTOM

      SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

      • 1yd fabric for bag and lining
      • 3/4yd Contrast fabric for handles, sides and bottom
      • 1yd heavy weight fusible interfacing
      • Matching thread
      • Basic sewing supplies

      DIRECTIONS:

        NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance.

        From bag and lining fabric, cut 4 pieces 16" H x 14" W.
        From interfacing cut 2 pieces 16" H x 14" W.
        From contrast fabric cut:
        4 pieces 16" H x 3" W for sides - cut 2 of interfacing.
        2 pieces 14" H x 3" W for bottom - cut 1 of interfacing.
        2 pieces 4" H x 24" W for handles.
        Follow manufacturer's directions, fuse interfacing to WS of bag front, back, side, and bottom pieces.
        Stitch 3" sides of bottom and side pieces together beginning 1/2" down and ending 1/2" from bottom edge.
        With RST, stitch sides and bottom to front; pivoting at the corners.
        With RST, stitch sides and bottom to back; pivoting at the corners.
        Repeat with the lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
        Press seams open.
        Press handles in half lengthwise, then open and press edges to center, refold to 1" and press.
        Edge stitch both long sides of the handles.
        Baste handles 2 1/2" in from sides on bag front and back.
        With RST, sew lining to bag.
        Turn RS out and press.
        Edge stitch top.
        Slip stitch opening closed.
