Tablecloth Fort

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 7 1/2 yds Keepsake calico for fort
  • 1/2 yd ea 2 coordinating calico for binding
  • 1 yd Keepsake calico for door curtain
  • 2 yds Ribbon for curtain tie backs
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

    (1/2" seam allowance) 55"x 32" and a 30" drop to floor.
  1. Make adjustments for your table.
  2. Cut the 7 1/2 yds half the width of fabric (3 3/4" yd).
  3. Working with one section, mark the center (27 1/2") at bottom.
  4. From mark at bottom front, measure out on both sides 9".
  5. Cut an 18"x 25" rectangle for door.
  6. Measure and mark 5 1/2" over from door sides for window.
  7. Measure and mark 9" up from bottom.
  8. Measure and mark a 6 1/2"x 11 1/2" rectangle for window.
  9. Cut out windows on both sides of door.
  10. Cut 3" strips from the two coordinating fabrics for binding.
  11. Piece together the strips, vary the lengths of each patched piece, making no pieces longer than 10".
  12. Fold the strip in half and press. Fold both sides into center and press. Finished width should be 1".
  13. Sew the bias tape around the cut out windows and around the door.
  14. Cut two strips the length of the windows and 2 strips the width of the widows.
  15. Stitch along the edges of the strips and again down the center to give a little stiffness to the strips.
  16. Stitch the strips to the back of the window — center one strip the length and one strip across center.
  17. Cut curtain fabric in half lengthwise to have 22"x 36".
  18. Gather top of each piece.
  19. Stitch to top of door opening on the inside.
  20. Trim length to 25" and hem.
  21. Cut ribbon in half. Fold in half and stitch to each side of door about 12" up from bottom.
  22. Pin the two fort pieces together the length of fabrics.
  23. Hem the table fort around all 4 edges.
