Tablet Holder/Stand

DIRECTIONS:

Measure size of iPad.
Cut cardboard: Front and back, 2 @ size of iPad + 1" H + 1" W
Top and bottom, 2 @ 1/2" x W of front cardboard
Flap, 1 @ half of H of front cardboard + 1" x W of front cardboard

Lay out cardboard as it will be inserted into fabric: front, bottom, back, top, flap. Label

Cut fabric:
Solid color or random print: Cut one panel for the back and two separate panels for the front. Back: add all cardboard H together + 1/4" for each space between cardboard pieces + additional 1" to flap + additional 1/2" to front x W of cardboard + 1". Front (iPad panel): size of front cardboard + 1" to H and W. Second front: L of back panel minus front (iPad panel) + 1/2" x W of cardboard + 1".
Directional print: Cut three panels for the front and three panels for the back. Front/Back (iPad panel), 2 @ size of cardboard + 1" H + 1" W. Center panel, 2 @ H of back cardboard + top and bottom cardboard + 1/4" for each space + 1 1/2" x W of cardboard + 1". Flap panel, 2 @ H of flap cardboard + 2" x W of cardboard + 1".

Sew elastic:
RSU front (iPad panel). Lay iPad on fabric if possible or a piece of cardboard cut to the size of the iPad. Lay four lengths of elastic on a diagonal at corners of the panel, approximately 3" from the corners. Adjust to ensure that the elastic does not cover any part of the iPad screen. Sew the elastic in place 1/4" in from the raw edges of fabric. Locate the elastic strap to hold the flap closed onto the RS of the back panel. Solid color or random print fabric approximately 2/5 L down from top edge. Directional print 3 1/2" down from the top edge of the center back panel, at the top of the print. Sew the elastic in place 1/4" in from the raw edges of fabric.
Solid color or random print fabric RST front (iPad panel) to second front short edge, 1/2" SA. Press seam to second front panel. Topstitch. RST front to back. Sew 1/2" from edges leaving flap end open. Trim corners. TRSO. Fold in raw edges 1/2" and press.
Directional print iPad panel and flap panel same direction, center panel opposite direction. Sew RST 1/2" SA. iPad panel to center panel to flap panel. Press seam at top of iPad panel away from elastic. Topstitch. Press second seam open. Topstitch. Repeat for back panels. RST front to back. Sew 1/2" from edges leaving flap end open. Trim corners. TRSO. Fold in raw edges 1/2" and press.
Insert cardboard one section at a time. The fit will be snug. Use a zipper foot to sew as close as possible to the cardboard to keep in place. Insert subsequent pieces of cardboard pressing sections together as close as possible prior to and during stitching.
Insert the last cardboard section, the flap. Sew close to the cardboard to close opening. Apply a small bead of Fabri-Tac to close folded edges of opening.
