SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1yd white cotton fabric per pillow
- One-step Ombre Tie dye Kit
- Sheet of plastic 24x24
- Sewing machine
- White thread
- Iron/ironing surface
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- To make each pillow, cut out the front fabric to be 1" bigger than the pillow form.
- Cut out 2 panels for the backside of the pillow to make an envelope back. Each piece needs to be the width of the pillow and 2/3 length of the pillow. For the back of the pillow fold and press the inside two times and hem with your sewing machine. Place the back and front right sides together with the back pieces overlapping at the center. Pin in place and sew around the perimeter of the pillow.
- Flip right side out and press with iron. Pillow #1
- Apply the blue tie dye onto the pillow cover from the top right diagonal using the paintbrush and paint the bottom with the purple from the left side going up with another color.
- Let it sit for 4 hours and then rinse with cold water until water runs clear. Pillow #2
- Lay the damp pillow cover on the piece of plastic. Scrunch the damp pillow cover in the middle and apply the salmon color sparingly in the middle. Paint the perimeter with caramel color dye. Let it sit for 4-6 hours and then rinse with cold water until water runs clear. Pillow #3
- Lay the damp pillow cover on the piece of plastic. Scrunch the pillow cover. Using the dye in the bottles, pour a color on each section of the pillow cover. Leave some of the white showing. Let it sit there for 4-6 hours. Rinse afterwards until water runs clear. Wash as usual. Pillow #4
- Lay the damp pillow cover flat on the piece of plastic. Using the 4 different dyes and the brush, apply the dye in stripes across the pillow. Let it sit for 4-6 hours and then wash as usual.
JOANN HACKS:
- If the dye is too strong, apply water to the fabric using the brush to dilute the dyes.
