SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 100% Cotton Sneakers
- All-Purpose Liquid Dye
- Squeeze Bottles
- Rubber Gloves
- Measuring Cup
- Large Metal Spoon
- Vinyl Tape
- Plastic Table Cover
- Salt
DIRECTIONS:
- Gather supplies. You will need squeeze bottles for this technique.
- Wet sneakers until they’re damp. Use a towel to remove any excess water.
- Carefully tape off sneaker bottoms to prevent dye from bleeding into the soles
- Wearing rubber gloves, mix 2 tbsp of desired color with 2 cups of hot water and 2 tbsp of salt. Pour into squeeze bottle. Repeat for each color.
- Place sneakers on a wire rack with a tray under it.
- Starting with the lightest color, squirt dye onto sneakers as desired. Keep in mind that colors can overlap to create new hues.
- Repeat with other colors as desired.
- Once you’re satisfied with the color, allow the sneaker to sit and absorb the dye for 30 minutes.
- Rinse sneakers in cool water until rinse water beings to run clear.
- Use a hair dryer to blow dry sneakers with hot air for five minutes.
