SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2 yd home decor fabric
- High Density Foam, 1" - 2" thick, 16"x16"
- One pkg Extra Loft Batting
- One 1/2" covered button form
- One small button
- Long upholstery needle
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sewing machine
DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: The supplies and directions are for one 16"x 16" cushion. Use 1/2" seam allowance.- Cut fabric pieces: two 17"x 17" squares, and four 2"x 28" strips for the cushion ties.
- Fold each strip in half lengthwise. Fold side edges into center and press. Fold again ending with approximately a 1/2" wide strip. Fold one short edge in 1/2" for a finished edge. Top stitch along both long edges and the folded short edge.
- On one side of a 17"x 17" square, mark 2" in from both edges to show the placement of tie strips. Pin the 2 strips at each mark, with the cut side of strip against edge of fabric.
- With right sides together, pin the front and back squares. Stitch around the outside of the cushion, leaving an opening to insert foam and batting. Turn right side out. Insert foam and cut batting 16" x 16" layering batting over foam form to desired thickness. Sew the opening closed.
- Cover the button form with fabric, following instructions on the package. Find the center of the pillow and insert a needle with the button at that mark. Push needle to the back and pull tight. Insert the needle into a smaller button to secure to back and tie knot.
- Repeat these directions for each cushion needed.
- If making a cushion for a different size, measure the seat of the chair. Add 1" to width and length to allow for seam allowance. For example, if the chair is 16"x 18", cut the pieces of fabric 17"x 19".
