HAT:
  1. Cut out five 1 1/2" white felt circles and five 1 1/4" black felt circles. Center black circles on white circles and glue. Cut out two small white triangles to be the spider fangs. Glue eyes and fangs to the hat and set aside.

BODY:
  1. Cut out one back and two shirt arms out of the black fur. The provided template is based on a size 3T; if you are making a much larger or much smaller size, reference the shape of the shirt arm shoulder curve but otherwise just copy the back of your t-shirt with a little extra to fold under, and copy the width of your t-shirt sleeve, and make the length the length of the child's arm, plus an inch.
  2. With right sides together, match half of the shirt arm curved edge to the back piece curved edge, secure with sewing clips and sew. Repeat for other side.
  3. With right sides together, secure with clips and sew down the length of the arm.
  4. Turn right side out and set aside.
  5. Cut out four spider arms on folded fur (for a total of eight spider arms), fur sides together.
  6. Match spider arms right sides together, secure with sewing clips, and sew together, leaving the short, flat end that matches up to the body open. Cut seam allowance around the arm curve down to 1/4". Turn right side out and stuff with Poly-fil. Repeat for remaining three arms.
  7. Match the open ends of the spider arms to the raw edges of the back fur, two on each side, even spaced apart. The bulk of the arm should be resting on top of the back fur piece. Clip in place and sew. Flip outward.
  8. Pull the fur sleeve pieces over the t-shirt sleeves, up to the seams. Lightly hot glue the edges of the fur onto the t-shirt, folding in the fur edges as you go.
  9. Make two circles out of the 3/4" elastic the size of the child's wrist, plus an inch to overlap and sew. Sew together with a zigzag stitch, and tack onto the edge of the fur sleeve at 2-3 points, then fold the elastic under and hot glue in place onto the inside of the sleeve.
  10. Lay the spider shirt out flat, and cut four pieces of black cord that will be secured with a dab of hot glue between each arm piece.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Have a lint roller handy for rolling over fur immediately after cutting.
