Toddler Tied Headband

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• LION BRAND® ICE CREAM® COTTON BLEND Yarn
• #202 Orange 1 ball
• LION BRAND® knitting needles size 4 (3.5 mm)
• LION BRAND® stitch markers
• LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle
• SIZE:
• 1 year (2 year, 3 year)
• To fit 14 (16, 18) in. (35.5 (40.5, 46) cm) head circumference
• GAUGE:
• 22 sts + 44 rows = about 4 in. (20 cm) in Garter st (knit every st on every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

STITCH EXPLANATIONS:
Kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then knit through the back of same st = 1 st increased.
Sk2p (slip-k2tog-pass slipped st over) Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over - 2 sts decreased.
Ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together - 1 st decreased.
Yo (yarn over) An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
Take yarn to the back, over the right hand needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

NOTES:
Headband is worked in one piece.
The Headband is very stretchy, so should be made a little smaller than baby's head circumference.

Cast on 3 sts.

Row 1: Kfb, k1, kfb - you'll have 5 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Kfb, k3, kfb - 7 sts.
Row 4: Knit.
Row 5: Kfb, k5, kfb - 9 sts.
Rows 6-8: Knit.
Row 9: K2, yo, k5, yo, k2 - 11 sts.
Rows 10-12: Knit.
Row 13: K2, yo, k7, yo, k2 - 13 sts.
Rows 14-16: Knit.
Row 17: K1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k3, k2tog, yo, k2 tog, k1 - 11 sts.
Rows 18-20: Knit.
Row 21: K1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1 - 9 sts.
Rows 22-24: Knit.
Row 25: K1, k2tog, sk2p, yo, k2tog, k1 - 7 sts.

Work even in Garter st for 2 in. (5 cm).

Next row: Kfb, k to last st, kfb - 9 sts.
Next row: Knit.

Rep last 2 rows 4 more times - 17 sts.

Work even in Garter st for 8 (10, 12) in. (20.5 (25.5, 30.5) cm).

Shape tie end
Next row: Ssk, k to last 2 sts, k2tog - 15 sts.
Next row: Knit.

Work even in Garter st for 2 in (5 cm).
