Tote with Belt Handles

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1yd plaid wool
  • 1yd lining and heavyweight iron-in interfacing
  • 1yd fusible fleece
  • 2 belts
  • Glue (to secure belts)
  • Thick matching thread to sew on belts
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Pattern PDF

DIRECTIONS: (1/2" seam allowance)

  1. Cut 2 from main fabric, interfacing and fleece following pattern.
  2. Cut 2 from lining. Cut at mark for lining on pattern.
  3. Iron fleece to main fabric.
  4. Iron interfacing to lining.
  5. For main fabric, sew front to back at side seams.
  6. Sew bottom of bag.
  7. Fold bottom seam to side seam at cut outs and sew across.
  8. For lining, sew front to back at side seams.
  9. Sew bottom leaving a 4" opening for turning.
  10. Fold bottom seam to side seam and sew across.
  11. With right sides together, pin lining to main bag. (Lining is shorter and when inserted into bag the top of bag will be turned to inside 3")
  12. Turn bag through opening at bottom of lining.
  13. Stitch opening closed.
  14. Fold side of bag at bottom corners to top of bag and stitch 1/4" from fold.
  15. Pin belts to bag 3" down from top.
  16. Stitch and/or glue belts in place.
