  1. Cut out the pieces needed based on the size of the sleeping bag chosen. Reference the above cut list.

  2. Take your two largest pieces (the ones that will become the bottom of the sleeping bag) and sandwich the interfacing between. Straight stitch around the entire perimeter a skank 1/4" seam allowance.

  3. Next you will be creating the blanket piece. Pin then straight stitch around all four sides to keep the pieces together.

  4. To finish off the top of the blanket with binding, grab your 2 3/4" binding strip and cut it a little longer than the width of your blanket (ex. 13" is the width of the large size).

  5. Fold and press in this piece, hot dog style, so that the finished seams are hidden. Then fold this along the top width of your blanket and sew a clean, straight stitch. Cut to the correct length if anything is hanging off.

  6. Pin the blanket onto the bottom, padded piece so that it is placed properly and the bottom edges and sides are lined up. Straight stitch along the three sides to hold into place when you sew on the binding.

  7. Create your binding using the remainder of the 2 3/4" strips. This requires you to fold the strips along the length and press.

  8. Stitch your unfinished edge of the binding around the front perimeter of the sleeping bag. When you get to the end, tuck and fold the binding into each other so that there are no unfinished edges.

  9. Hand stitch the folded edge of the binding down onto the back of the sleeping bag using an invisible stitch.

  10. To create the pillow, stitch around the edge of your 2 pillow pieces, leaving a 2" opening. (Remember to have the right sides together).

  11. Fold right side out and stuff with polyfil.

  12. Hand sew an invisible stitch to close up the gap.

JOANN HACKS:

  • When sewing the interfacing inside the bottom fabric pieces, I found it easier to use my zipper foot presser.
  • You will most likely need to sew your strips together to make a long enough piece for the perimeter of the sleeping bag. Use a diagonal stitch with right sides together to do this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Directions I think you mean a SCANT 1/4 seam. Not what is there. Please correct
