Beginner 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Photo, printed with dry ink toner (most home and office printers will have dry ink toner)
  • Unfinished Wood Frame
  • Mod Podge
  • Application Brush
  • Cloth or Paper Towels
  • Painter's Tape
  • White Paint
  • Any Additional Paints for decorating the frame

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Apply an even layer of Mod Podge to the wood surface. Place the photo in the center, face down. Allow to dry completely.

  2. Once dry, wet a paper towel and dab onto the back of the paper. Take a dry paper towel to help you rub the paper off of the wood surface. It is possible to chip the Mod Podge/ink off of the wood surface so as you work the paper off, watch to make sure you aren't unknowingly damaging the image.

  3. Once the entire image is revealed and paper gone, seal with another coat of Mod Podge.

  4. Allow to dry, then tape off the image and around the inner edges of the frame. Paint a border around the image with white paint.

  5. Tape around the frame edges and apply additional decorative paint.

  6. Remove all tape and touch up any area as needed

JOANN HACKS:

  • The result of this photo process will be the mirror image of the original printed photo. To end up with an image that is the same orientation as your digital file, you will need to print a mirror image of the file.

  • Before starting, it can be helpful to measure out where the corners of your centered photo will be and lightly mark the top left and bottom right corners with a pencil for easy placement once the Mod Podge is applied.

  • Once paint is dry, you can touch up any area that may have bled through the tape by chipping it off lightly with an X-acto blade.
