SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White Cotton Tee
  • Rit Dye
  • 1/2yd Coordinating Knit Fabric for Insert
  • Basic sewing Supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Dye white cotton tee to desired color using directions on bottle, dry.
  2. Cut side seams of the tee off up to but not through the sleeve seam.
  3. Cut 2 triangles of coordinating knit fabric 14"x 19"x 19" and hem the 14" side of the triangle by turning under 1/2" then another 1/2" and sewing close to edge (these will be the inserts).
  4. Pin and sew the triangles to the side seams and press.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a rotary cutter, mat and ruler to cut off side seams.
  • Choose a solid or print for either the shirt or the insert.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor directions I looked at this project and thought it was a cute idea. It said beginner sewer which is what I am. I read the directions and concur with the other reviews. There is not enough information for me to complete this project easily. More details and pictures would be extremely helpful!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Instructions Not for a Beginner Once again JoAnn's has missed the mark on communication! For a beginner this project needs more photos and directions. For the seasoned/skilled sewer it is very simple. But why dye a white shirt when there are so many colors of it's to choose from. This is an unnecessary step! How about letting someone who sews lay out these projects!!! JoAnn's continues to fail its customers!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as clear as it could be So, most of the reviewers didn't like that there weren't more pictures. I can agree with that to a point. There should have been at least one picture showing that you remove the side seams, leaving a fresh area to sew the panel into.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could be better Instructions could have been much more clear for a beginner project. Like what type of thread to use, what stitch on the machine, tension, etc. Also what about the bottom hem where it meets the two fabrics? Don't you have to take out the hem of the existing shirt and fold after the insert is sewn?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Trapeze Top I thought as a "beginner" project this would contain lots of clear instructions and pictures. It does not - this is not a beginner project at all.
