SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Curtain panel
  • Assorted trims, lengths width of curtain panel + 2"
  • Aleene’s Fabric Fusion, Permanent Fabric Tape, 1/4", 5/8", 1" widths correspond to width of trim tape edges
  • Scissors
  • Fabric clips or spring clothespins
  • Marking pen or tailors chalk, contrast color to curtain color
  • Yardstick & t-square
  • Tape measure

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Lay curtain panel on a flat surface.
  2. Cut lengths of trim 2" wider than the curtain panel. Dry fit groupings of trim. Alternate trim colors and textures. Leave some areas of curtain without trims. Measure from the top or the bottom edge of the curtain to the top edge of the trim tape. Mark points for each line of trim along one side of the curtain. Take a photo or write the type of trim for each row.
  3. Remove the trim from the panel. Use a T-square or tape measure to line the curtain to indicate the top edges of the trim tape. Place a length of adhesive tape lining up with the lines. Use the width of adhesive tape that corresponds to the width of trim tape. Press in place. Repeat.
  4. Remove the paper from the tape one row at a time. Cut a short length of tape and place behind the first 1" of trim. Open tape and fold in cut end of trim. Place the trim on the open row of tape starting at the side fold of the curtain. Lightly press a short section of trim to the tape, working to the other side of curtain. Repeat the fold over for the end of trim. Check to ensure that the trim is placed on a straight line. Press firmly to secure. Repeat.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Fabric Fusion Permanent Fabric Adhesive may be used instead of tape. Use a 1" foam brush to apply the adhesive to the curtain panel a few inches at a time and immediately press the trim in place. If a thin curtain is used layer the curtain on top of a piece of plastic drop cloth in case any adhesive seeps through the panel.
  • After the tape has been mounted to the curtain panel lay out the trims next to the appropriate row of tape. Flip any tassels, pom poms or other draping parts to face the direction that they will hang. Open the tape then lift trim into position on the tape, press a short section at a time.
