SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Jean jacket
  • Aleene’s Fabric Fusion, Permanent Fabric Adhesive
  • Marking pen or tailors chalk
  • Ruler
  • Cardboard
  • Utility knife
  • Scissors
  • 1" Chip brush
  • Disposable container for adhesive
  • Trim
  • White Paper
  • Pins

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Measure areas on jacket to be trimmed. These measurements will determine lengths of trims to be purchased.
  2. Lay cardboard under jacket and draw around areas of jacket that trim will be added. Insert sections of cardboard inside jacket. Flatten areas of jacket to be trimmed.
  3. If centering trim on back of jacket, measure and mark vertical and horizontal centerlines. Run the trim to a seam. Cover cut edges of trim with a coordinating trim. If this is not possible, fold under cut ends and secure with adhesive.
  4. Place trim back side up on white paper. Use a chip brush to apply adhesive to the back of trim. Glue a short section at a time. Place pins at a severe angle through trim and into cardboard backing to press trim while glue sets.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Test fit all trim prior to attaching.
  • Cut sections of trim longer than necessary to allow for fold under at cut ends if necessary.
  • Pin trims in place immediately after adhesive applied. Take added care to pin areas of trim that bridge seams in denim.
  • Use only white paper under trim while applying adhesive. When the adhesive is wet color from cardboard or other surfaces may wick up into trim.
  • Add a generous amount of adhesive to the back of trim using a stippling technique with a chip brush.
