DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out 2 rectangles of cotton fabric 18"x 30".
  2. Cut out 2 rectangles of cotton fabric 7"x 18" for sleeves.
  3. Measure down 3" from armpit and mark a horizontal line across both the front and back of the t-shirt, cut off t-shirt 2" below this line and hem cut edge.
  4. With right sides together sew the 18"x 30" rectangles together along the 18" side and finish both the top and bottom edges by folding under 1/2" twice and stitching close to edge.
  5. Gather the top edge, pin and sew to the t-shirt at the marked line on the outside approximately 3/8" from edge of ruffle.
  6. With right sides together sew each 7"x 18" rectangle to create sleeve ruffles, along the 7" side, finishing the top and bottom edges by folding under 1/2" twice and stitching close to edge.
  7. Gather the top edge, pin and sew to the bottom edge of the sleeve on the outside of the shirt approximately 3/8" from edge of ruffle.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a serger to finish the edges of the cotton fabric.
  • Choose a coordinating fabric for the sleeves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and fun project Great quick and inexpensive project. I was skeptical about the measurements of the skirt but using the right size T-shirt in came out perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from upcycled cotton tiered tee How do we make this "Upcycled Cotton Tiered Tee" dress? No measurements for adult sizes - Small, Med., Large, XL, 2X and 3X. If only they would give the fabric measurements so us grown up children could make this for our friends and ourselves. Could you please just give the measurements. I noticed others wants to know too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Pattern A size is not listed because you purchase a pre-sewn t-shirt in whatever size you choose. Makes this a quick and simple project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Responding to previous review This project isn’t for a newbie. However, it’s simple enough that someone with experience could walk you through the steps pretty quickly. They don’t tell you the size because everyone is a different size. The way you get around that is because you are pinning the Halloween fabric to the bottom of the shirt and then sewing so it lines up exactly with the shirt you have. The excess fabric will be cut away. I’m a teacher and love this idea because I can use lots of different fun fabrics to wear in the classroom!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What Size? This dress shirt is so cute. I would love to make some for my friend’s little girls. However, the directions do not tell you what size shirt you need and does not give the fabric dimensions for various sizes like for instance a 3T vs XL. I am new to sewing. This looks like a fun project that I could do if the directions were a bit more precise.
