SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Jeans
  • Scallop Template
  • Disappearing Ink Pen
  • Piece of Scrap Cardboard
  • Fabric Paint, White
  • Paintbrush

DIRECTIONS:

To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

  1. Iron the jeans if needed for a smooth work surface. Space the three scallop sizes along the side seam of the jeans evenly, removing a scallop or tracing an extra scallop if needed. Trace the template onto the jeans with the disappearing ink pen.
  2. Cut a piece of scrap cardboard into a thin long rectangle you can place behind your painted surface inside the jean to keep any of the paint from bleeding onto the back side.
  3. Paint the traced shape along the seams of the jeans. Allow to dry.
  4. Paint a total of 2-3 coats.

JOANN HACKS:

  • A filbert paintbrush is helpful for painting the curve of the scallop, these are the flat paintbrushes with hair rounded into an oval shape.
  • Painting with a slightly more watery paint for the first coat of paint on the scallop helps to achieve a smoother painted curve.
