Not for the faint of heart
The bark isn't meant to stay on the finished piece. If that is what you're after you have to use CPES available at any hardware store. Otherwise the bark is meant to be removed, the wood sanded down, then stained/burned whatever. I love this plaque because it is easy to work with, once stained and hardware added it is a beautiful tray. Or carving board if you don't want to add hardware. It also is easy to work with in my laser engraver.

Awesome but not that durable.
Painted the front with black chalk paint and it came out beautiful, however... just touching the sides makes the “bark” fall off. You have to be very delicate with the piece.

I loved it very much, I did read other reviews and I happen to agree that the edges are very fragile, I'm a little nervous to even take off the clear wrapping (which is the only reason for the 4 stars). It was a little higher priced than I would have liked, considering... and it was a little smaller than what I measured before I bought it. But all around, it is a beautiful piece, I look forward to using it!

this could have great features
when I took off the wrapping there was a big knot in the center, and since I was going to draw on it , I can't use it. you couldn't see the defect because the wrapping covered it up.
