SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Fimo Air-dry clay
  • X-Acto® blade
  • Plant marker template
  • Clay rolling pin
  • Letter stamps
  • Texture stamps (flowers, scrolls, leaves)
  • Watercolor paint / brush
  • Water and papertowels for clean up
  • Spray sealer
  • 6" square 2-tone cardstock

DIRECTIONS:

    Clay Plant Markers:
  1. To find the downloadable template click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
  2. Print and cut out the template.
  3. Roll out the clay to roughly 3/8" thick. Place the template onto the clay and cut around it with an X-Acto® blade.
  4. Use the stamps to stamp the name of the plant you want to mark, starting at the top and working down the marker towards the point.
  5. Along the bottom, in the blank area at the point of the marker, use the texture stamps to add leaves, foliage and flowers.
  6. Set the marker aside to dry (follow the package instructions).
  7. Once the markers are thoroughly dried, paint the markers with watercolor paint. Use a papertowel to dab away any excess. Set aside to dry.
  8. Once the watercolor is dry, apply sealer to the plant markers to seal in the watercolors.

  9. Giftable card:
  10. Fold the 6" cardstock square in half. Fold the paper so the lighter color is on the outside and the brighter color is on the inside.
  11. Cut 2 slits across the front of the paper, approximately 2" up from the bottom of the folded card. The 2 slits should be about 1/2" apart.
  12. Just above the slits, cut some freehand foliage designs to add interest behind the markers showing you the brighter color.
  13. Slide the plant marker into the two slits, write a message inside the card and gift.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Keep the leaf cutouts simple
  • Fill the letters with paint and keep the base light so that the letters pop.
