Wood Canvas Wreath Painting

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Wood canvas, 12"x 12"
  • 1 pint Varathan Wood Stain, Golden Mahogany
  • Mineral spirits
  • Stir sticks
  • Rag
  • Brushes: Artist's 1/2" flat and #4 round, 1 each, Chip, 1", 1
  • Palette
  • 2oz acrylic paint, Anita’s Princess Pink and Americana Blush Pink & White, 1 each
  • 5/8" ribbon, 1'
  • Fabri-Tac adhesive
  • Pencil
  • 1 sheet transfer paper
  • Eraser
  • Wreath template

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Stain the frame using 1/2" flat brush. Wipe off excess stain with a rag following the grain of the wood. Let dry. Clean brush with Mineral Spirits then with soap and water.
  2. Mix a small puddle of two pink paints 50/50 to achieve a medium dusty pink color. Dry a sample on the back of the wood frame to test color. Paint the interior portion of the frame. Let dry.
  3. Lay a sheet of transfer paper over the pink interior. Mark the center point of the interior and the centers of the outside edges. Lay the template for the wreath pattern on top of the transfer paper lining up the center points and centers of sides. Trace over template to transfer. Rotate the template to complete the second side of wreath pattern. Remove papers.
  4. Use a #4 round brush to paint the wreath. Let dry.
  5. Mark the center of the top of the wreath.
  6. Use an eraser to remove any unwanted graphite lines left from the transfer paper.
  7. Tie a small bow from the ribbon. Place a small amount of Fabri-Tac on the back of the center loop of the bow and press in place at the center top of the wreath. Let dry overnight.
