SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS:
JOANN HACKS:
- 1 Roll of Leather Cording, Brown
- 1 Roll of Leather Cording, Light Color
- 1 Felt Piece, Brown
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
- Ceramic Pot
- Scissors
- Pencil or Fabric Marker
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut nine strips of light colored leather cording 4" longer than the height of the ceramic pot.
- With the pot upside down, place the cording on the bottom of the pot where the ends are at the center and the strips move outward while evenly spaced from each other. Glue them down to the bottom with a hot glue gun. The rest of the cording will hang down loosely from the bottom rim and past the top of the pot.
- Then take the brown leather cording and glue an end next to one of the light colored strips at the bottom rim of the pot (which is currently at the top since the pot is upside down).
- Start weaving the brown leather cording around the pot with a pattern of weaving it in front of one light colored strip first, then behind the next, and so on. Continue weaving the brown leather cording like this around the rim. When you fully reach around the rim to where you first started, add the next layer below your first wrap-around by continuing your weave from where you left off. Keep this process and pattern going to weave more layers as you go down the pot. Keep the brown leather cording close together as you add each layer to completely cover the pot as you go. Feel free to add dabs of hot glue on the brown leather cording as you go to keep it in place. When you get to the top rim of the pot, glue your entire top row of the brown leather cording, and cut the brown cording off with scissors when you reach the end. Cut off the excess of the light colored cording also.
- Cut three more strips of the light leather cording to a length that is twice the length of the circumference of the top rim of the pot. Tie a knot at the end of these three pieces and make a loose, flat braid with them (do not knot or glue the other end). Begin gluing the braid around the top rim of the pot. When you get to the end, cut off the excess while still keep your braid together, and then glue that end in place. Hold the end in place while the glue fully dries.
- Finally, sit the pot right-side up on your piece of felt and trace the bottom of the pot with your pencil or fabric marker. Cut out the circle with scissors and glue it on the bottom of the pot to cover up your glued strips and give a clean, finished look.
JOANN HACKS:
- When making the braid, turn the cording inward to keep it flat.
- Once you have finished with the pot, you can slightly push and/or adjust the light colored cording strips to make sure the vertical lines are straight.
