SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 12x12" Scrapbooking paper of your choice
- Scissors or X-acto Blade
- Ruler
- Glue
- Washi Tape
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut paper into the following strips. You will need a total of 38 strips 1/2" wide, to follow the design in the example you need 10 white, 11 blue, 4 pink, 5 black & white, 8 black. From the black paper you will also need 4 strips of black 1" wide to use as a border.
- Score down the center of all four of the 1" black strips at the 1/2" mark and fold in half and set aside.
- Lay out 21 strips of paper horizontally on your work surface so they butt up to each other and are even on the ends. Apply washi tape along one side to secure the ends of each strip in place. To follow the example, lay them out in the following order from top to bottom:
- *B=blue, P = Pink, Blk = Black, W = White, B&W = Black and White
- (B, P, Blk, W, B&W, W, Blk, P, B, B, B, P, Blk, W, B&W, W, Blk, P, B)
- Weave in the remaining 19 strips vertically in the following pattern from left to right: (W, B&W, W, Blk, B, B, B, Blk, W, B&W, W, Blk, B, B, B, Blk, W, B&W, W)
- Add glue to the overlaps around the edge of the weaving to secure them in place.
- Glue the folded 1" strips to the perimeter of the weaving to create a frame. Trim the edges of two of the sides at a 45 degree angle to make a clean corner.
JOANN HACKS:
- When securing the tape in step 2 to hold the strips in place for weaving, it may make it easier to tape the side that's the opposite of your dominant hand. If you're right handed, tape the left side and vice versa.
