7 sts = about 6"; 10 rows = about 6 1/2" over K2, p2 Rib pattern.
DIRECTIONS:
Pattern Stitch:K2, p2 Rib Pattern (worked over a multiple of 4 sts)
Row 1 (WS): P3, k2, * p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p3.
Row 2: Sl 1 as if to purl, k the knit sts and p the purl sts to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3: Sl 1 as if to purl, k the knit sts and p the purl sts to last 3 sts, p3.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 for K2, p2 Rib pattern.
Notes:
Wrap is worked back and forth in rows of K2, p2 Rib pattern.
Wrap is worked in one piece, then divided at beg of armhole slit. The slit is worked using separate balls of yarn, then rejoined to work remainder of Wrap.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the large sts.
When you see 'as established' in the instructions, this means to continue in the current pattern st, lining up sts as in previous rows.
Wrap:
Cast on 28 sts.
Beg with Row 1 (WS) of pattern, work in K2, p2 Rib pattern, slipping first st and keeping last 3 sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS) on each row, until piece measures about 34 in. (86.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Divide for Slit
Row 1 (RS): Sl 1 as if to purl, k2, p2, k3 for first side of slit; join a 2nd ball of yarn then sl 1 as if to purl, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3 for 2nd side of slit - you will have 8 sts for first side of slit and 20 sts for 2nd side of slit.
You will now work both sides of slit AT THE SAME TIME using separate balls of yarn.
Work in K2, p2 Rib pattern as established over both sides of slit, using separate balls of yarn and slipping first st and keeping last 3 sts on each side in St st, until slit measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm), end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Rejoin
Joining Row (RS): On first side, sl 1 as if to purl, k2, p2, k2, p1; on 2nd side, continue with same ball of yarn (cut 2nd ball), p1, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Work in K2, p2 Rib pattern as established, slipping first st and keeping last 3 sts in St st on each row, until piece measures about 34 in. (86.5 cm) from Joining Row.
Bind off.
Finishing:
Weave in ends.
