SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 15"x 30" canvas
  • 2/3 yard linen
  • staple gun & 5/16" staples
  • 1-2 2oz Beacon Fabri-Tac
  • 1 skein Patons Classic Wool roving: aran
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • disposable rag/paper towel

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut one piece of linen fabric 18"x 33". Lay linen WS up on a flat surface. Lay the canvas WS up centered on the linen. Pull linen up and around to the back of the canvas in the center of one side and staple linen to wood of canvas. Repeat at the centers of the other three sides. This will ensure that the linen stays centered on the canvas. Continue stapling linen to canvas frame back from the centers out toward the corners, every 2", pulling the linen slightly to keep the fabric tight to the frame. Stop stapling about 2" from the corners. Fold back the corners to create a flat pleat edge of fabric and staple the fabric to the back of the frame. Repeat for all four corners.
  2. Use a pencil to lightly transfer the outline of pattern on to the face of the linen canvas.
  3. Glue yarn over all pencil lines. Follow the longest curves that have no intersections with other curves first. Cut sections to avoid overlaps.
  4. Fill in texture panels of the design. For a repeated circle pattern a pencil line grid may be added to the space to be filled. This will give guidelines for an organized pattern.

JOANN HACKS:
  • Try different yarn patterns on a scrap of linen.
  • Attached template may be projected on to stretched canvas.
  • Wipe off the tip of the glue bottle often.
