SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 18"-24" Floral Hoop
- Floral Picks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Floral or Jewelry Wire
- Jewelry Tweezers
- Wire Snippers
- 1-2 Extra Large Skeins of Chenille Yarn
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut yarn into approximately 3ft lengths. Cut enough pieces to cover desired area of wreath. Total number of yarn pieces should be an even number.
- Attach yarn to wreath in even lengths, using a lark's head knot. (Fold yarn in half. Place folded loop behind wreath. Feed ends through folded loop, pull snuggly.)
- Working in pairs, weave the wreath. Use any pattern desired, based on your knowledge and skill level. Wreath in example uses a diamond pattern. Weave four pieces at a time, working left to right. Separate first group of four pieces of yarn (two lark's head knots). Tie two half hitch knots using center pieces. Using right two pieces, tie another two half hitch knots. Tie four half hitch knots using left two pieces. Tie two half hitch knots using right two pieces. Finish the diamond by tying two half hitch knots with center pieces. Move to the next four pieces, and repeat the above steps. When the first row is complete, begin a new row. This time create the pattern by using the right two pieces of yarn from one diamond and the left two pieces from the diamond next to it. This will weave the pattern together.
- Continue to weave until satisfied with design. Trim excess strings to desired length.
- Apply extra floral additions with wire and hot glue. Apply largest pieces first and secure at multiple points with wire. Apply medium and small pieces with hot glue.
- Hang directly from hoop.
JOANN HACKS:
- Chenille yarn is very forgiving when using macrame patterns, so beginners should not worry about being technically perfect. For more advanced macrame crafters, use macrame cords of choice and experiment with different patterns.
