SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Liquitex Basics Acrylic colors: Titanium White, Medium Magenta, Prism Violet, Brilliant Purple
- Liquitex Gloss Gel
- Liquitex Freestyle Detail Flat Brush
- 8"x 10" canvas
- 4 Craft sticks
- 3 Small plastic 3oz cups
- 6 strands of yarn, 13-15" long
- Plastic spray bottle (fill with water)
- Table covering
- Gloves (Optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Protect your work surface with paper or plastic.
- Paint the canvas with Titanium White to create the background color.
- Prepare cups with Gloss Gel & paint:
- Cup 1: 2 Tablespoons Gloss Gel, 2 teaspoons Medium Magenta, 1/2 teaspoon water
- Cup 2: 2 Tablespoons Gloss Gel, 2 teaspoons Prism Violet, 1/2 teaspoon water
- Cup 3: 2 Tablespoons Gloss Gel, 2 teaspoons Brilliant Purple, 1/2 teaspoon water
- Using a separate craft stick for each cup, stir your mixture thoroughly until all the contents are combined.
- Using this color order: Medium Magenta on top, Prism Violet in the middle, Brilliant Purple on bottom, and scooping one color at a time, create a vertical line of paint (approximately 2 1/2" long per color) on the table covering next to the canvas.
- Lay the first strand of yarn in the line of paint starting from the very top of the strand. Only approximately 7-8" of the strand will be covered in paint, the rest will be clean. Use a craft stick to gently push the string down into the mixture and ensure it is coated evenly.
- Starting on the top half of the canvas, hold the string from the clean end and begin to lay it down on the canvas, creating an "S" shape with the painted portion of the yarn strand. Lay the clean end of the yarn down on the canvas in a straight line. The end of the strand will be hanging off the bottom of the canvas.
- Let the yarn sit on the canvas for a few seconds, use the spray bottle to spray an even mist over the painted portion of the yarn.
- Grabbing the clean end of the yarn, slowly pull and drag the yarn straight down on the canvas until it "falls" off of the bottom edge.
- Repeat this process with each yarn strand until you've created the desired number of flowers.
- The "S" shape yarn patterns may be placed on the canvas at varying heights (top of the canvas for the background, bottom of the canvas for the foreground) and in different widths to create a variety of flower shapes and sizes.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours.
JOANN HACKS:
- Test out different "S" widths on scrap paper or surface to determine what shape you want to achieve.
- Use either a traditional "S" shape or a backwards "S" to get a mirrored flower variant.
