Great tweed
I’ve been looking to make a tweed trenchcoat for a long time, but tweed is usually so expensive. I was so excited to find that this basket weave tweed is perfect for coats! It’s quite heavy and loosely woven. Because of the loose weave, your lining color will show through a bit.
Beware that this fabric frays like crazy!!!! In fact, I’d venture to say don’t even bother with it if you don’t have a serger/overlocker. After cutting out each piece, serge the edges immediately. It’s an extra step that takes time but will prevent you from losing a third of the threads by the time you’re ready to sew. It also has a tendency to warp a bit due to the loose weave, so I’m purchasing some black interfacing for the smaller pieces. I love this fabric and my coat is looking gorgeous so far (not done yet). Because of everything I mentioned, I wouldn’t recommend this fabric for beginners.

Quality fabric
Excellent fabric that has wonderful texture. Just need to make sure you overlock the edges and it sews wonderfully.
