DIRECTIONS:

  1. Case will fit the device with 1/2" interior space on all sides of device.

  2. Measure height and width of device.

  3. Front & back: H + 2" x W + 2", cut 2 print, cut 2 contrast (liner), cut 2 foam. Fuse WS of fabric to foam. One print, one contrast to either side of one foam. Repeat. Cut out pattern for cord keepers. Transfer 2" curve end of pattern to each corner of front and back. Cut. Zigzag edges to flatten. Determine top. Fold in half side to side. Mark center top and bottom of both panels.

  4. Front panel H - 1" x 2 plus W - 1" x 2 = perimeter measurement.

  5. Bottom: 2/3 H of front panel x 2 + W of front panel = L. Foam: cut 1 @ 2" W, contrast fabric cut two @ L of foam + 1"x 2" W. Layer fabric, foam, fabric, WS fabric to foam centered L. Fold ends of one fabric over ends of foam. Fold ends of second layer of fabric back 1/2". Fuse to foam. Zigzag long edges, straight stitch short ends close to fold.

  6. Top: Perimeter measurement - foam bottom L + 5". Cut 2 contrast fabric 1 1/2" W. Mark 2" from each short end. Match long edges. Sew 1/2" from edge, tight from corners to 2" mark, baste between marks. Press seam open. Fold short ends to RS 1/4". Press. Center RS of zipper on back of seam beginning and ending at 2" marks, ends of zipper extending beyond marks. Sew zipper with zipper foot. Stitch over teeth of zipper at 2" marks. Cut off excess zipper 1/2" past stitching. Remove baste stitch to reveal zipper. Fold in half lengthwise, mark center on both long edges.

  7. Piping: Perimeter measurement + 3" = L, 1 1/2" W for 3mm cord (this will leave a 1/2" flange on the piping to line up with 1/2" SA), cut 2 contrast fabric. Fold fabric over cording matching raw edges and stitch with zipper foot.

  8. Piping to front & back: Start center bottom of front panel matching raw edges. Leave 1" tail of piping extending beyond edge of front. Sew on top of piping stitching. Clip into piping edges to flare around corners. Cut off excess length of piping. Apply a small amount of glue from glue stick to flatten piping edge to front panel. Repeat.

  9. Bottom to front and back: RST match center of bottom with bottom center of front. Raw edges flush. Clip into bottom edges to flare around corners. Make sure that the short ends of bottom end at the same point on the sides of the case. Sew with zipper foot. Repeat to attach bottom to the back.

  10. Top to the front and back: Open zipper. RST match center of top/zipper panel with top center of front. Raw edges flush. Clip into top edges to flare around corners. The short ends of the top will overlap the short ends of the bottom by 2". Sew with zipper foot. Repeat to attach top to the back.

  11. Trim seams to 1/4". Tight zigzag stitch to finish.

  12. Turn RSO. Place a small bead of Fabri-Tac to the back of seam closest to zipper on the front. Press to inside of front. Use fabric clips to hold till set. Repeat for back seam.

  13. Optional shoulder strap: Prior to attaching bottom to front and back create loops for D-rings or attach grommets. Loops: 2 1/2" x 5 1/2", cut 2 contrast fabric. Fold both long edges to center, press. Fold in half, press. Sew close to edges. Place loop through D-ring. Fold loop in half lengthwise matching raw ends, mark 2" from ends. Center loop on back of short end of bottom 2" mark flush with end of bottom. Stitch in place along edges of loop. Repeat. For grommets center 1/2" from short ends of bottom. See manufacturer’s directions to attach.

  14. Attach strap when case complete.

  15. Heat end of belting to prevent fray. Place belting through hook. Fold end of belting under 1/2". Sew around edges of fold. Clip both hooks to D-rings or through grommets. Thread strap adjuster onto end of belting. Feed end of belting though second hook and back through strap adjuster. Adjust the length to fit. Finish the end of belting by 1/2" fold and stitching.

  16. Cord Keeper: Cut out template. Fuse interfacing to WS of one fabric, cut two fabric. RST sew fabric 1/4" from edges leaving the square end open to turn. Clip corners and notch curve. Turn RSO. Press. Turn square ends in 1/4", press. Topstitch close to the edges. This will close open end. Place snaps at circles on template. See manufacturer’s directions to apply snaps.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Glue stick may be applied to thin layers of fabric to create a temporary hold.
  • Cord Keeper: Inside diameter approximately 3/4". To increase the diameter add length at the square end of the template.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Has potential It's free, that's always a plus. However, perhaps this should be advanced if one is expected to make their own patterns with descriptions provided. Otherwise, maybe one or two different sized patterns would be helpful 🤔. Like, will fit 7" tablet or 14" laptop.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the pattern listed only cord keeper I've tried over and over to download the patterns and it only gives me the one page of the cord keeper... So I assume thats the free pattern not the cases at all...
